Clifford Chance's Asia Pacific Derivatives team is recognised for playing a pivotal role in helping financial institutions adapt to the changing market and regulatory environment for derivatives in Asia Pacific and globally.

Clifford Chance was named the 'Derivatives Law Firm of the Year for 2017' by Asia Risk and 'Law Firm of the Year' for its derivatives regulatory work by GlobalCapital.

The awards underscore the strength of the firm’s capability in Asia Pacific when supporting both Asian and global clients with new products, novel transactions and complex regulatory rules for derivatives trading, including new margin requirements mandated by regulators in APAC, US, EU and other jurisdictions globally. The firm’s derivatives practice stood out for its understanding of products, transactions and local regulations, its collaboration with industry bodies across the region and its insights into market trends in APAC and globally.

The firm also picked up European law firm of the year from GlobalCapital. Winners were selected by the publications editors based on evidence of their strength, growth, client feedback and innovation over the last year.

Singapore partner Paul Landless commented, "These awards encapsulate a great year for us, where we have worked hard to provide our clients with the best advice on a range of deals. Winning the awards in Asia Pacific is a testament to the time and effort our team has invested in delivering the very best advice to our clients on the most complex structured transactions. We continue to play an active role for several trade associations on market initiatives and continue to give the best insights to clients by staying close to developments by regulators, central banks and governmental authorities across the region."

Hong Kong partner Francis Edwards added, "In a year where the derivatives market experienced changes, we were able to demonstrate our leadership in this space and our insights and solutions to support our clients. We are delighted to receive these awards, which validated the strength and multi-jurisdictional reach of our Asia Pacific team. We are fortunate to work with exceptional clients, and knowing we have their confidence as they develop their businesses in the region."

The Asia Pacific Derivatives and Financial Regulatory practice is well-established in all key jurisdictions including in Hong Kong, Singapore, Beijing, Sydney and Tokyo and is led by a team of 17 partners. The firm continues to invest in the practice as evidenced by the promotion of Lena Ng in Singapore and Terry Yang in Hong Kong to partner in May this year.
