Apple, Google, and Motorola as Barometer of Patent/Antitrust Tension

Motorola Mobility and Apple are patent rivals. Motorola Mobility claims Apple’s products infringe its patents and seeks to enjoin Apple from importing the infringing products. Apple claims that Motorola Mobility’s patent licensing terms violate commitments it made to standard-setting organizations. Motorola Mobility has succeeded in obtaining preliminary rulings that certain Apple products infringe Motorola Mobility’s patents. In the midst of the Apple-Motorola Mobility patent war Google, Apple’s technology rival buys Motorola Mobility.
