Peter Hughes is a member of the Energy, Infrastructure & Projects Group. He advises developers, investors and lenders relating to energy and infrastructure projects in the United States and internationally and has a broad range of experience in banking, project finance, and M&A transactions.

  • The US Department of Commerce CHIPS Program Office (CPO) on an award of up to US$7.865 billion in direct funding for commercial fabrication and packaging facilities of leading-edge chips that Intel Corp. is developing in Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio, and Oregon.
  • CPO on an award of up to US$3 billion in direct funding to Intel (separate from the above transaction) for construction and operation of facilities to ensure a domestic supply chain of advanced semiconductors for national security purposes.
  • CPO on an award up to US$35.5 million to BAE Systems Electronic Systems for the modernization of BAE's Microelectronics Center (MEC) in New Hampshire, a "Trusted Foundry" by the Department of Defense. The BAE MEC produces "Monolithic Microwave Integrated Circuit" chips critical for advanced military aircraft and commercial satellite systems.
  • US Department of Energy, Loan Programs Office (LPO) on its US$72.8 million partial loan guarantee of a U.S. Bank loan to finance the development of a solar–plus–energy–storage microgrid to be located on the tribal lands of the Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians in California
  • LPO on a US$504.4 million loan guarantee for the Advanced Clean Energy Storage Project, an innovative clean hydrogen production and storage facility capable of providing long–term seasonal energy storage.
  • LPO in connection with a $2.5 billion loan to Ultium Cells for the construction of three lithium–ion electric vehicle battery manufacturing facilities.
  • LPO in connection with a US$102 million loan to Syrah Technologies, LLC for its processing facility in Louisiana that produces graphite–based active anode material for electric vehicle batteries and other clean energy technologies.
  • SACE S.p.A., Intesa Sanpaolo S.p.A (and NY/London/HK branches), Cassa Depositi e Prestiti S.p.A. and SIMEST S.p.A., as lenders, on the €350 million (US$367.82 million) financing to MSC Cruises for the construction of a mega–cruise terminal at PortMiami.
  • US Department of Energy as programmatic and transactional counsel in connection with the ongoing loan portfolio management of eight completed renewable energy projects guaranteed under Title XVII of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, including Alamosa Solar, Desert Sunlight Solar, Genesis Solar, Shepherds Flat Wind, Granite Reliable Wind, Ormat Nevada Geothermal, USG Oregon Geothermal, and Blue Mountain Geothermal.
  • AELA Energía on the ongoing development and financing of three wind projects in Chile (totaling 332 MW).
  • Matelec on the financing by the IFC of the expansion of the Tobene (Senegal) independent power project.
  • International sponsors in connection with the development and financing of separate methanol projects in West Virginia and Louisiana.
  • KEPCO and the KEPCO Woori Sprott Global Private Equity Fund in connection with the acquisition of 235 MW of renewable energy generation assets in California.
  • ENGIE on the sale of its U.S. LNG assets to TOTAL, S.A.
  • A US private equity fund on its acquisition of a stake in a portfolio of energy projects in Latin America.
