Jonathan advises on complex, multi-jurisdictional disputes, with a focus on international commercial arbitration.
He has experience in arbitrations under a wide range of rules (ICC, LCIA, LMAA and UNCITRAL) and has advised on and implemented enforcement strategies across multiple jurisdictions. He also has experience in English High Court litigation. Jonathan has acted for corporates, financial institutions and state-owned entities, particularly in the energy, infrastructure and financial services sectors.
Before joining Clifford Chance, Jonathan worked with Inter Mediate, advising on conflict negotiations between governments and non-state armed groups.
- Acting for a global energy company in an ICC arbitration arising out of the construction of a power plant in South America.
- Acting for a state-owned entity in arbitrations relating to various commercial arrangements (LCIA rules, Dubai seat; LMAA rules, London seat; UNCITRAL rules, London seat).
- Acting in a pre-LCIA arbitration dispute concerning a joint venture (settled following a series of mediations).
- Acting for News Group in Various v News Group Newspapers (the phone hacking litigation, managed litigation in the English Chancery Division).
- Acting for the prime contractor in LCIA arbitration proceedings concerning a series of claims arising out of the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Middle East.
