Harini Viswanathan

Harini Viswanathan is a Senior Associate in Clifford Chance's Restructuring and Insolvency (R&I) Practice in London. Harini has experience acting for financial institutions, insolvency practitioners, trustees, funds and large corporates across a wide range of domestic and cross border R&I matters including debt restructuring and formal insolvency processes.

Harini has worked on transactions in a variety of sectors including shipping, aviation, healthcare, commodities and technology, media and telecoms. She has a particular specialism in aviation insolvency, specifically matters relating to the Cape Town Convention. 

Restructuring & Insolvency

  • Acted for Navantia in respect of the strategic acquisition of Harland & Wolff, via a pre-packaged administration asset sale.
  • Acted for Grup Mediapro in relation to the €980 million restructuring of its debt.*
  • Acted for the largest unsecured creditor in relation to the scheme of arrangement in respect of Nordic Aviation Capital.*
  • Acted for a lender on its options in relation to a potential restructuring of Malaysia Airlines, including analysis of, and advice regarding, possible Cape Town Convention issues.*
  • Acted for the joint administrators of the various Phones4U group companies on all aspects of the administrations.*
  • Acted for Virgin Atlantic Group and its shareholders in relation to the £1.2 billion solvent recapitalisation of Virgin Atlantic’s airline, cargo and holiday business. This was a landmark transaction as Virgin Atlantic Airways Limited was the first company to implement a successful restructuring plan under Part 26A of the UK Companies Act 2006.* 
  • Acted for a syndicate of lenders including financial institutions and export-credit agencies on the restructuring of a majority state owned asset in North Africa.*
  • Acted for ING Bank N.V. and ING Belgium SA/NV in relation to the $3.5 billion restructuring of the Noble Group.*
  • Acted for the Co-ordinating committee in relation to the $750 million restructuring of the Aegean Group.*
  • Acted for a lender in relation to the EUR265m financial restructuring of the Frigoglass group.*
