Clifford Chance
Julia is an experienced arbitration and litigation practitioner in our L&DR group in Australia, with over 15 years’ experience advising and representing clients on the full spectrum of contentious matters across a wide range of sectors including aerospace and defence, infrastructure, construction, energy, government and corporates. Julia acts as both counsel and arbitrator.
She also regularly advises clients on dispute avoidance, contract administration and risk minimisation at all stages of the major project lifecycle.
Her experience also includes advising clients on compliance and directors duties, and dealing with regulatory authorities in the context of various types of investigations and court proceedings.
In addition to her experience in Australia, Julia has previously worked in Paris and Singapore. Prior to re-joining Clifford Chance, Julia was a principal in a boutique disputes firm for a number of years.
- an Australian mining company and its subsidiaries in an ICC Arbitration with the Government of the Republic of Congo, and in a dispute with the Government of the Republic of Cameroon, in relation to a globally significant, trans-boundary iron ore project.
- an Australian engineering firm in a multi-million dollar international arbitration under the UNCITRAL Rules in relation to design and refurbishment of a gold mine processing plant.
- *State Government of South Australia advising on various strategic and legal issues, and representing the State in several arbitral proceedings under the ACICA Arbitration Rules and in the Federal Court of Australia in relation to the AU$2.5 billion public-private partnership arrangements for the design, construction and operation of the new Royal Adelaide Hospital.
- *Australian Department of Defence in relation to the cancellation of an AU$1.3 billion dollar project for the supply of helicopters. Julia was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation by the CEO of the Defence Materiel Organisation in recognition of her work.
- *an Australian electricity transmission company in relation to various aspects of its operations, including dealings with regulators and contractual counterparties on various multi-million dollar projects and in proceedings in the Federal Court.
- *New South Wales government transport and infrastructure entities in relation to contract administration/interpretation and disputes arising with respect to several billion dollar road and rail infrastructure projects. Matters involved various forms of alternative dispute resolution and several urgent injunctions in the Supreme Court of New South Wales
