Jonathon Caunt

Jonathon Caunt specialises in commercial litigation and international arbitration.

Jonathon has acted for a variety of clients in high-profile High Court litigation matters, including a number of cases relating to the operation and close-out of transactions written under the ISDA Master Agreement. He also has experience with warranty claims and other common law contractual disputes.

Jonathon has also acted for a number of clients in connection with international arbitrations conducted under the LCIA, ICC and DIAC rules, including in the fields of commodities, shipping and construction.

Jonathon has worked in Clifford Chance’s London and Paris offices and has undertaken a secondment to the Litigation & Regulatory Enforcement team of a global investment bank.

Jonathon is admitted as a Solicitor-Advocate (Civil Proceedings) in the Courts of England and Wales. He supports the firm's pro bono efforts through the FreeLaw scheme and its partnership with the National Autistic Society, as well as sitting on the Clifford Chance Foundation London Management Group.

  • Acting for the defendant in claims for breach of warranty following a £1.2 billion merger transaction.
  • Acted for Inmarsat plc on its acquisition by Triton Bidco for £2.6 billion.
  • Acted on behalf of Deutsche Bank defending a €1 billion plus High Court litigation relating to the enforceability of interest rate swaps with allegations of ultra vires and bribery.
  • Acted for a high net worth individual in connection with discharge of worldwide freezing orders against him and a successful challenge to the jurisdiction of the English Courts.
  • Acted on behalf of the Respondent to an LCIA arbitration relating to the construction of a nuclear power plant in the Middle East.
