Liz Wangu is a Senior Associate in the firm's worldwide projects group. Liz’s practice focuses on international and cross-border project finance, corporate finance and other development finance transactions, mainly throughout emerging markets worldwide. Liz has broad experience representing and advising lenders (including development finance institutions, export credit agencies, multilateral institutions, and commercial banks) with structuring, negotiating and documenting international financings in a variety of sectors, including energy and infrastructure.

  • IFC in relation to financings to Société Nouvelle de Commerce S.A., Les Moulins d'Afrique S.A. and Agro Food Industrie Guinée S.A. in the Republic of Guinea.
  • Citibank in relation to an OPIC backed financing for Millicom Tanzania, a leading provider of fixed and mobile telecommunications services.
  • JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, CIFI, Ficohsa and other lenders in relation to the MIGA-backed financing of the Corredor Turistico in Honduras. MIGA provided political risk insurance.
  • Deutsche Bank in relation to the financing to the Republic of Cameroon for the design and installation of water treatment facilities in the cities of Buea, Tiko, and Mutengene. This financing is guaranteed by U.S. Ex-Im Bank.
  • the African Agriculture Trade Investment Fund (through its fund manager Deutsche Asset Management International GmbH) in relation to a financing to Sterling Bank Plc for further onlending towards agricultural projects in Nigeria.
  • Standard Chartered Bank (as lender) in relation to two facilities to the Republic of Cameroon to fund the purchase of four C30ACi locomotives. These facilities are guaranteed by U.S. Ex-Im Bank.
  • African Development Bank, China Development Bank, IFC and OPEC Fund in relation to a €350 million container terminal in Togo.
  • IFC in relation to an investment in senior unsecured green bonds issued by ProCredit Holding AG & Co. KGaA through a private placement in Germany.
  • KCB Bank Kenya Limited, Barclays Bank of Kenya Limited, IFC and Proparco on the 2019 financing to NCCL and NCCU for the further development of their facilities in Kenya and Uganda.
  • Nederlandse Financierings-Maatschappij voor Ontwikkelingslanden N.V. (FMO), IFC and The OPEC Fund for International Development in connection with the financing of a hotel and mall complex in Accra, Ghana.
  • Sponsors in connection with the expansion of the original 96MW Tobene Power Project in Senegal.
  • IDB Invest, China Co-financing Fund for the Americas, DEG and PROPARCO in relation to the financing of the Port of Posorja in Ecuador; PPP Deal of the Year, Latin America, Infrastructure Investor Awards 2018.
  • Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), Rand Merchant Bank, Nedbank, and CDC Group on post-closing matters in connection with the financing of the 192MW combined cycle dual-fired Amandi power plant in Ghana. African Power Project of the Year 2016, PFI Awards.
  • Natixis and a syndicate of lenders in connection with a $300m COFACE backed financing of the Seabras-1 cable, a telecoms cable project from the US to Brazil. Best Infrastructure Deal for Brazil, Latin Finance 2016 and Best Deal of the Year 2015, Global Trade Review.
