Robert Sharpe is experienced in advising on UK and international tax disputes and investigations, and on UK tax aspects of a wide variety of financing and corporate transactions, including on corporate restructurings, complex financial products and international tax planning.

  • Advising a major UK bank on the UK tax consequences of various UK and international corporate reorganisations, including on intra-group transfers, funding arrangements, disposals and share issuances
  • Advising financial institutions and major corporate clients on legislative and other developments including FATCA, the Common Reporting Standard, the "Panama Papers" leaks and new corporate criminal tax offences and their implications, including operational and reputational issues
  • Advising a major corporation in the extractives industry in relation to various national and international tax disputes involving a challenging East African jurisdiction
  • Advising UK and European financial institutions in relation to the European Union state aid rules on various tax matters, including historic tax rulings, banking sector taxes, and the taxation of soft drinks manufacturers
  • Advising various UK and non-UK financial institutions on the UK tax consequences of a broad range of transactions including loan facilities, rights issues, stock lending arrangements, repos, note programmes and covered bond issuances
