Matthew Preston specialises in all aspects of pensions law. Matthew joined Clifford Chance from another well respected City pensions practice.
His 18 years of post-qualification experience is wide-ranging and includes advising companies and trustees in relation to mergers, acquisitions, disposals, buy-in and buy-out transactions, restructuring projects and complaints to the Pensions Ombudsman as well as the day-to-day running of pension schemes.
- Advising a UK insurance company on the pensions issues involved in establishing a joint venture with another regulated EU-based insurance company
- Advising a large aircraft manufacturer on the UK pension issues relating to the sale of its global maintenance, repair and overhaul division
- Advising one of the bidders on the auction of Harrods Bank
- Advising a multi-national stationary group on the sale of a majority stake in its European office supplies operations
- Advising on the establishment of a new joint venture coffee business and the establishment of a new UK defined benefit pension scheme as well as advising on pensions matters across several other EMEA jurisdictions
- Advising a multi-national oil company on the disposal of its downstream Australian companies
- Advising a global bank on the separation of the EMI pension plan and its subsequent buyout with Pension Insurance Corporation
- Advising a large European company on the disposal of its packaging division across 20+ jurisdictions for a gross price of €1.7 billion
- Advising various specialist insurers on numerous pension scheme buy-in and buy-out transactions
- Advising the trustees of a closed pension scheme on the buy-out and winding-up of the pension scheme
