Jack Oakley specialises in litigation and dispute resolution.

Jack has worked on a number of significant disputes concerning allegations of negligence and misleading or deceptive conduct by company auditors. He has experience in defending liquidators' proceedings and shareholder class actions, including in relation to ratings applied to complex structured financial products.

Jack also has experience with general commercial litigation (including insurance claims and debt claims), international commercial arbitrations, internal and external regulatory investigations, as well as in the defence of white collar criminal proceedings.

  • Acting for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and Deloitte Corporate Finance Ltd in relation to cross-claims alleging professional negligence and misleading or deceptive conduct brought by former directors and officers of the Dick Smith Group in multiple proceedings brought by the Group's receivers and managers, senior secured lenders and shareholders
  • Acting for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu in relation to its defence of professional negligence claims made by the liquidators of Hastie Group Limited in respect of several audit periods
  • Acting for Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu and Deloitte Corporate Finance Ltd in relation to a class action commenced by former shareholders of Hastie Group Limited in connection with a A$160m capital raising
  • Acting for BHP Billiton in connection with a claim in breach of contract and negligence relating to defective works performed at a mine shaft at Olympic Dam, brought directly against the contracting party's professional indemnity insurers
  • Acting for McGraw–Hill Financial, Inc / Standard & Poor’s in relation to several class actions brought by investors in the Federal Court of Australia concerning structured financial products
  • Acting for a major Japanese trading company on an arbitration concerning allegations of bribery in maritime transactions and the establishment of anti-bribery and corruption policies
  • Acting for a major Japanese technology infrastructure developer on internal anti-bribery and corruption investigations and remedial action
  • Acting for a global investment banking firm on the establishment of an anti-bribery and corruption policy for its joint-venture partner in the Hong Kong real estate market
