Clifford Chance Applied Solutions tackles business’ struggle to keep up with global data privacy regulations with new digital tool
Clifford Chance Applied Solutions announces the launch of a digital tool "Cross-Border Publisher: Data Protection", providing businesses with trusted legal guidance on data protection issues and assisting in complying with both GDPR and local data protection regulations. The tool covers a growing list of key jurisdictions for businesses, with more jurisdictions to be added on demand.
Data protection is a board level risk for companies globally, with 44% of c-suite executives believing data poses their organisation’s biggest ethical challenge. There is also an increased financial concern, as the ten highest individual GDPR fines imposed to date total to almost half a billion euros.
The product has been developed with a major International Bank, who is already using it extensively to manage its data protection risk. Alongside managing risk, the product does the following:
- Protects from financial and reputational loss. There continues to be record breaking fines for companies failing to comply with regulations;
- Saves time trying to find the answers to the data protection questions. Q&A format allows answers to be filtered and jurisdictions compared easily;
- Saves money on data protection advice. Content is from a trusted source at an affordable price.
Jonathan Kewley, partner and co-head of the Tech Group at Clifford Chance, comments: "Since the GDPR came into force, it has pressured countries globally to meet a new international gold standard, as well as adopt their own data privacy regimes. An avalanche of new data laws has resulted, and this is only the beginning. Our new digital tool is a vital resource for staying up-to-date with a dizzying range of new laws. The end result will be greater digital trust and transparency, which in turn will strengthen relationships with customers and employees."
Jeroen Plink, CEO at Clifford Chance Applied Solutions, comments: "Companies are under increased pressure to ensure they comply with data protection regulations which change often and vary with jurisdiction. We have worked with Clifford Chance's tech lawyers who advise businesses on these challenges, to create a product with trusted information that is updated when a data regulation has changed or come into force. Simple and practical guidance is presented in a question and answer format, helping to ensure you make the right decisions for your business. This eliminates anxiety from multijurisdictional businesses. We have also ensured that there are recommended next steps if further advice from our tech lawyers is needed."
The Clifford Chance lawyers involved in the product were; (including but not limited to) partners Jonathan Kewley in London, Dessislava Savova in Paris, Ines Keitel in Frankfurt, Megan Gordon in Washington, Hong Zhang in Beijing and Ling Ho in Hong Kong. The team also included associates Andrei Mikes and Sanne Blankestijn in Amsterdam, who were integral to driving the content behind the product.
