International Day of Persons with Disabilities

Delivering equal career opportunities for all

International Day of Persons with Disabilities is marked on 3 December annually. It aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society. The day also raises awareness of the barriers that exist in every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life.

Clifford Chance, and its disability network Enable, are proud to observe International Day of Persons with Disabilities. We also join PurpleSpace in their global movement #PurpleLightUp. It celebrates the economic contribution of 386m disabled employees from around the world.

Our 2021 celebrations

Hosting a panel discussion

Our Enable network hosted a panel discussion with Tiernan Brady, Matthew Layton, Ruth Owen OBE and Lord Kevin Shinkwin on how we can tackle the stigma faced by people with disabilities in society and in workplaces and what firms and business leaders should do as they strive to deliver an equality of opportunity and an equality of experience for all our colleagues.

Competing for most purple selfie

We encouraged our colleagues to dress up in purple - the internationally recognised colour for disability!

Partnering with the Love 21 Foundation

A group of volunteers from our Hong Kong office led a fitness class in collaboration with the Love 21 Foundation, which empowers the Down syndrome and autistic community through sport, nutrition and holistic support programmes.

My Lived Experience

Understanding the lived experience of our colleagues is central to our disability inclusion strategy. It raises awareness of visible and non-visible disabilities and debunks the myths around the umbrella term of ‘disability’. In our award-winning series ‘Enable: My Lived Experience’ we speak to our colleagues to find out about their own, or family members’, lived experience to discover what it means for them in their day-to-day role at Clifford Chance. Enjoy!
