Summer Program

Make a big splash this summer

The Clifford Chance Summer Program offers you a chance to get your feet wet right up to your ears on major cases and transactions. You’ll talk to some of our top attorneys in legal surroundings and at our social gatherings. Programs are held in New York and Washington, DC and you may have the opportunity to spend part of your time in one of our foreign offices.

Our summer law clerk program offers students a comprehensive hands-on introduction to our practice and our firm. Summer law clerks can expect to work on a broad range of assignments such as conducting legal research, assisting with corporate closings and securities filings,conducting fact investigations and analyses, handling pro bono matters, participating in client meetings and attending depositions and court hearings. Our summer assigning process is flexible allowing summer associates to receive assignments from all practice groups to make their experience here as broad and enriching as possible.

Much of what you learn as a summer law clerk is in the moment, working with colleagues at the firm, clients and even respected adversaries. We supplement hands-on training for our summer law clerks with formal training. This summer, summer law clerks attended an all-day deposition skills training seminar and an all-day negotiation skills seminar. Summer associates are also invited to participate in departmental seminars throughout the summer and attend weekly lunch time meetings where partners and associates discuss their practice groups.

In addition to the experience gained in the office, an important aspect of the program is enabling the summers to network and socialize with partners and associates in an informal setting. Weekly social events are held throughout the summer and allow the summers to learn about the attorneys, work and practice groups on a more informal basis.

We also offer the opportunity for a number of law clerks to work in our London office in either our US Securities or US Banking groups and this past summer sent summers to work for a period of time in over 10 countries including Hong Kong, Milan, Frankfurt, Paris Dubai and Moscow.
