My first contact with the firm was working opposite John Healy, Karl Roessner and team in connection with a series of public offerings for a healthcare services company. I really liked the people I worked with at Clifford Chance, so when I decided I wanted to make a lateral move I interviewed with CC. I knew I wanted to focus on securities offerings, and the firm offered me the opportunity to work with a dedicated corporate finance group. I knew CC was a large, international firm with a steady flow of interesting transactions.
PRACTICE AREA: Corporate Finance
Since I've started working here, I've come to realize that the attorneys in the corporate finance department are a special group of people. It's a collegial team that works hard and enjoys what it's doing. While everyone works hard, they are also sensitive to the balance between work and your personal life.
I represent companies and underwriters in a variety of public and private offerings of equity and debt. Corporations and Securities Regulation were two classes that I enjoyed in law school and so I was naturally drawn to the practice. I do a lot of deals with the two partners that lead my practice area, Alex Camacho and Jay Bernstein, as well as other senior partners. I also work with many of our foreign offices.
I recently worked with the Madrid office in connection with an offering for a Barcelona-based real estate development company and worked with the London office in connection with the recent MF Global Ltd. IPO. Currently, I'm working with the London office on an offering for a permanent capital vehicle that is going to invest in Asian real estate. I've also worked on a number of domestic matters, including a couple of offerings for spine implant manufacturers, which were very interesting. I enjoyed learning about the different types of spine problems, and how these companies' products address those problems and ultimately make peoples' lives better.
Working at CC, I've been impressed with the amount of time and resources that the firm commits to attorney development. The firm works hard to make sure that you not only develop the requisite legal skills, but also "soft skills" that you wouldn't necessarily learn in law school, like effective negotiation and presentation techniques.
