Italy: last minute changes to the taxation of interest

On 29 December 2011, the Italian Government published Decree Law 216 containing, among others, some amendments to the new system of taxation of income from financial investments, which entered into force effective 1 January 2012. Decree Law 216 must be converted by Parliament into law, with possible amendments, within 60 days; if not converted, the decree would cease to produce any further effect. This briefing outlines the new relevant provisions.
