The new Social Insurance Law came into effect on 1 July 2011 and extends social insurance coverage to foreigners working in China.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security has issued draft measures detailing how foreigners will participate in China's social security system. This briefing explains the PRC social insurance system and the contributions required from employers and employees under the law and the draft measures. It also looks at the impact of the change on employers with foreign workers in China once the measures come into effect.
