Clifford Chance

China Desk Germany

We offer outstanding benefit to our Chinese and German clients by combining the highest global standards of business and law with local excellence of service maintaining at the same time the depth, quality and scale of resources necessary to meet our clients' needs whenever and wherever they arise, irrespective of geography or time zone.

We have set up the Clifford Chance China Desk in Germany with a team of specialists including lawyers from all our German and Chinese offices with particular strengths and knowhow through the diversity of its members and cultures.

The China Desk team is co-headed by Dr. Nicole Englisch and Dr. Qian Ma. Dr. Englisch is practicing law from our Clifford Chance office in Munich, Germany, and Dr. Ma is based in our office in Frankfurt, Germany. Through many years of cooperation with our China practice, we offer our clients an in-depth knowledge and a profound understanding of the challenges Chinese investors are facing when investing in Germany and the challenges foreign companies are facing when investing in China.

We focus on:

  • acting for global and major regional clients investing in China (including private equity)
  • acting for major Chinese companies (including state owned enterprises) and Chinese financial institutions investing in Europe and particularly in Germany
  • establishing strong relationships with Chinese companies accessing globally available capital through IPOs
  • strengthening relationships with key international investment banks focused on China

We set the standard for international law firms and have broad experience advising Chinese companies on outbound acquisitions, including acquisitions in Germany and advising German companies on activities and investments in China.

Our German China Desk works closely with colleagues from Clifford Chance offices in China and with our dedicated team of China Experts across our global network, and is therefore able to advise on strategic and challenging transactions across all major markets often with multi-jurisdictional dimensions.
