Tiecheng Yang leads Clifford Chance's Financial Regulatory Group in China. He has over 20 years experience advising on matters relating to China's financial services sector, including RMB internationalization, banking, derivatives, structured products, funds (QFII, QDII and RMB funds), securitization, securities and insurance.

Tiecheng has made significant contribution over the years to the development of China's financial regulatory reforms, having assisted Chinese regulatory bodies like CBRC, PBOC, CIRC, CSRC and SAFE in drafting legislation and providing training sessions. His clients range from foreign multinationals and financial institutions to major domestic players.

Relevant experience

  • Advised over 10 fund management clients, including: Goldman Sachs Asset Management International, INVESCO, BNY Mellon Asset Management, PIMCO, UBS Asset Management, Blackrock and AMP Capital in the past year on QFII regime, as well as Standard Chartered Bank, PIMCO and Bank of America on the QDII regime
  • Advised international asset management companies, including Ashmore funds, IXIS, Surge Capital Fund and Deutsche Asset Management (Asia), on marketing and distribution of fund products to PRC investors
  • Advised BNP Paribas, Standard Chartered Bank, Toronto Dominion, IXIS, HVB and Lehman Brothers on PRC regulatory issues about financial and commodity derivatives 
  • Presented on international regulatory reform to China Securities Regulatory Commission, China Financial Futures Exchange and Dalian Commodity Exchange in relation to derivatives and to NAFMII and its banking members in relation to FATCA
