Regulatory change such as Basle III and Solvency II is not only going to affect financial institutions, the impact on liquidity and cost of capital will ripple throughout the economy. Corporates should already start to consider what challenges may lie ahead for them and for those with whom they do business. New sources of funding MAY need to be found and the spreading regulatory web is likely to capture some business activities in unexpected ways, but there should also be opportunities for corporates to occupy some of the commercial space no longer filled by financial institutions, and to acquire new businesses.
