Managing global risks

Date: Wednesday 27th June 2012
Time: 11:00am (London time) with interactive Q&A session

Even in a challenging economic environment, businesses continue to chase growth and global expansion.  With increasing globalisation comes the requirement for companies to comply with a complex web of legal and regulatory regimes. Some of these regimes are relatively new and under-developed, while others are sophisticated and multi-layered.  Some conflict with each other and almost all are set against a background of broader political drivers and differing priorities.  Companies are therefore required to manage an increasingly broad range of global legal and regulatory risks, the natural consequence of which is an increased risk of non-compliance.  The stakes are always high where a company’s reputation is concerned, and regulators typically have an arsenal of both criminal and financial sanctions at their disposal.

In this webinar, the Panel will bring a global perspective to a discussion of these issues. The Panel will look at effective systems and controls which can be put in place to allow business to expand while, at the same time, prudently managing risk.  The Panel will consider the trend towards the opening of regulatory gateways which require companies to take a co-ordinated approach to managing risks across borders.  Based on their practical experience our speakers will also discuss the increasing criminalisation of corporates.

Planning for a considered and prompt response when things go wrong is critical, and our Panel will give advice on strategies for containing a difficult situation and mitigating the spill over into operational and reputational issues.

Speakers:

Litigation partners Luke Tolaini (London) and Rae Lindsay (London), Anti-corruption partner Wendy Wysong (Hong Kong) and Corporate partner Rob Crothers (London).
