FDI into India has been on a steady upward trend for the last 2 decades. Dismantling of Government controls and a rapidly expanding middle class has fuelled India's GDP growth rate and in the early part of this decade Indian corporates started to look outwards. However, uncertain domestic situations and the financial crisis of 2008 slowed down the inflow of foreign equity into India.
