Clifford Chance advises 3i Infrastructure on its acquisition of the largest biomethane producer in the UK
International law firm Clifford Chance has advised 3i Infrastructure on its acquisition of Future Biogas, a UK, founder led group developing and operating biogas plants across the UK. Future Biogas is the largest biomethane producer in the UK and currently operates 11 biogas plants across the UK, which it has developed and subsequently sold to institutional investors. 3i Infrastructure's investment will support the continued growth and development of the business.
Future Biogas plants convert a wide range of crops, as feedstocks into clean, renewable energy, through a process of anaerobic digestion which produces biogas via the breakdown of microorganisms in the absence of oxygen. The resulting biogas can either be used to generate green electricity or upgraded into biomethane and injected into the UK’s national gas network.
The transaction further adds to Clifford Chance's established track record as a market-leading advisor to global investors in infrastructure and renewable energy platforms.
The team was led by Partner and Infrastructure co-head Charlotte Madden in London with support from lawyers Gillis Waelkens, Megan Hodges and Lianne Mizrachi. Partner Sonia Gilbert and lawyer Jennifer Danso assisted on the incentives aspects.
