Clifford Chance creates a European scholarship to promote diversity
Clifford Chance has created a scholarship for law students in Spain, France, Italy and the Netherlands to attract diverse talent. The initiative is part of the Race Equality and Celebrating Heritage (REACH) programme's strategic plan to foster inclusion and make the Clifford Chance team representative of social and economic diversity in Europe.
The scholarship, which will be awarded annually, amounts to 10,000 euros for each candidate and is aimed at university students with diverse cultural or socio-economic origins who are in the last two years of their law studies and are interested in pursuing a career in a law firm.
In this first year of the scholarship, three students have been awarded; in Spain, the Netherlands and France. While not a requirement, the firm was particularly interested in candidates who were the first generation of university students in their families. This scholarship is not a one-time grant; its goal is to create a lasting link with the candidates – even those who are not ultimately awarded – in order to build a diverse talent pool to work with in the future.

We hope that with this contribution we can help her access greater opportunities in her academic career in order to achieve her career goals, and that her example will inspire many other students to apply for this scholarship in the next call."
Mimouna El Beghdadi Maaroufi shares: "The recognition that this scholarship represents is a personal achievement, as well as an opportunity. It will allow me to pay for my exchange in Paris, in collaboration with ESADE, and continue my education until I can start my career in law firms like Clifford Chance."
Talking about ESADE's diversity policy, Jorge Castiñeira, head of the double Bachelor of Business Administration and Law at ESADE Law Schooladds : "Diversity and inclusion are essential principles for ESADE. As a business school, we know that talent can manifest in many ways, so Clifford Chance awarding this scholarship to one of our students means a great deal to us, recognising her talent and journey, both on a personal and academic level."
The next call for the scholarship for students in Europe will be in autumn 2022.

Clifford Chance ha creado una beca dirigida a estudiantes de Derecho en España, Francia, Italia y Países Bajos para fomentar la atracción de talento diverso. La iniciativa se enmarca dentro del programa Race Equality and Celebrating Heritage (REACH), y forma parte de su plan estratégico enfocado en mejorar la inclusión y fomentar que el equipo de Clifford Chance represente la diversidad social y económica en Europa.
La beca, cuyo importe es de 10.000 euros por cada candidato premiado y se otorgará anualmente, está dirigida a estudiantes universitarios con un origen cultural o socioeconómico diverso, que estén cursando los dos últimos años de sus estudios en Derecho, y estén interesados en hacer carrera en un despacho de abogados.
En esta primera convocatoria, se ha otorgado a tres estudiantes en España, Países Bajos y Francia. En la adjudicación de la beca, la firma ha estado especialmente interesada en aquellos candidatos que fueran la primera generación de estudiantes universitarios de sus familias. Esta beca no es una ayuda puntual, sino que pretende crear un vínculo duradero con los candidatos -incluso si no resulta adjudicatario- para construir una cantera de talento diverso con la que se pueda colaborar en el futuro.

Esperamos que con esta aportación podamos ayudarla a acceder a mayores oportunidades como parte del desarrollo de su carrera académica para lograr sus objetivos profesionales y que su ejemplo inspire a muchos otros estudiantes a solicitar esta beca en la próxima convocatoria."
Mimouna El Beghdadi Maaroufi, comparte: "El recocimiento que supone esta beca es un logro personal, además de una oportunidad. Gracias a ella, voy a financiar mi intercambio en París, en colaboración con Esade, continuando con mi formación hasta iniciar mi carrera en el seno de despachos de abogados como Clifford Chance."
Jorge Castiñeira, Director del Grado en Derecho y Doble Grado BBA y Derecho de Esade Law School, continúa hablando de la política a este respecto de Esade: "La diversidad e inclusión son principios esenciales para Esade. Como escuela de negocios, sabemos que el talento puede manifestarse de muchas maneras. Por ello, es tan importante para nosotros esta beca que Clifford Chance ha concedido a una de nuestras alumnas reconociendo su talento y trayectoria, tanto personal como académica.”
La próxima edición de la beca para estudiantes en Europa para el fomento de la diversidad se convocará en otoño de 2022.
