Clifford Chance advises Maas Capital and Yard Energy on the project financing of two onshore wind projects in Finland

Clifford Chance Amsterdam has advised sponsors Maas Capital (an ABN AMRO subsidiary) and Yard Energy on the project financing of two onshore wind projects (27,5 MW) in Finland. Dutch wind turbine manufacturer Lagerwey is supplying eleven L100 - 2.5 MW wind turbines. The turbines are to be installed on 135-metre modular steel towers in order to capitalise on faster wind speeds at greater heights.

Clifford Chance has advised the sponsors in the financing provided by Rabobank. Part of the financing was backed by Atradius Dutch State Business, which concerned its first transaction in onshore wind.

The Clifford Chance team was led by Hein Tonnaer and furthermore consisted of Jasper Dijkshoorn, Ellen Römkens and Michiel Boer. Liesbeth Buiter and Willem Jan Wieland provided advice on the project documents. Jeroen Thijssen and Tim Heerschop previously provided corporate advice to Maas Capital. A team from Krogerus advised the sponsors in respect of the Finnish law aspects of this transaction.

The Project Finance team of Clifford Chance Amsterdam has extensive experience in advising on the financing of renewable energy projects and recently won three international awards for its involvement as project counsel in the offshore Gemini wind farm project. Other offshore, onshore and nearshore wind projects the team advised on include the projects 195 MW NOP Agrowind, 144 MW WestermeerWind, 332 MW Nordsee 1 and the 40 MW Kreekraksluis.
