Clifford Chance advises on refinancing of US$500 million El Dorado International Airport expansion project

Clifford Chance has advised BNP Paribas, Bancolombia, HSBC Bank and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation on the US$500 million refinancing of the El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá, Colombia. The project is a central component of the Colombian government's multibillion dollar push to improve infrastructure across the country, and one of the largest merchant projects in Latin America.

The proceeds were used to prepay the concessionaire's (Sociedad Concesionaria Operadora Aeroportuaria Internacional) credit facility with Inter-American Development Bank, China Development Bank Corporation and Corporación Andina de Fomento, and to pay certain capital expenditures under the Concession Agreement.

A Washington, D.C.-based Clifford Chance team led by partner Fabricio Longhin and including associates Alberto Haito and Alan Sakar represented the lenders in the transaction. In addition, counsel Daniel Winick and associate Katherine Ward of the New York office advised BNP Paribas in its capacity as Administrative Agent.
