Clifford Chance advises Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ and Mitsubishi UFJ on buyout of stake in private banking joint

Leading international law firm Clifford Chance has advised Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ (BTMU) and Mitsubishi UFJ Securities Holdings (MUSHD) on its acquisition of Bank of America Merrill Lynch's stake in their joint venture, Mitsubishi UFJ Merrill Lynch PB Securities, a wealth management business.

The joint venture was formed in 2005 to provide private banking services, on which Clifford Chance also advised BTMU and MUSHD.

Tokyo partner Tatsuhiko Kamiyama, who led the team on this transaction said, "We were delighted to have assisted BTMU/MUSHD on this strategically important transaction. This highlights our strong domestic M&A capabilities and complements our equally strong international M&A expertise."

Tatsuhiko was assisted by counsel Yusuke Abe, senior associate Yasuyuki Takayama, and associates Maiko Adachi and Luna Hiraoka.
