Clifford Chance advises SensoMotoric Instruments on the sale of its ophthalmic business unit

Clifford Chance advised SensoMotoric Instruments (SMI) on the sale of its ophthalmic business unit to WaveLight, a company belonging to the Alcon Group. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

SMI is a leading manufacturer of dedicated computer vision applications. The company has offices in Teltow (Germany) and Boston (USA) and closely cooperates with local partners in various other countries. The ophthalmic business unit includes the development, manufacturing and marketing of eye and gaze tracking systems used in refractive laser surgery as well as diagnostic and surgery guidance products for cataract surgery.

The Clifford Chance team was led by partner Dr. Thomas Krecek and comprised counsel Jörg Rhiel and transaction lawyer Moritz Erdmann (all Corporate, Frankfurt) as well as partner Dr. Claudia Milbradt and senior associate Dr. Wolfgang Schönig (both IP, Düsseldorf).
