Antitrust regulation is on the rise – there are now over 100 merger control regimes across the globe. As more countries, such as India and China, develop merger control regimes, the opportunities for divergence increase. The regulators themselves are also being active – in February 2012, the European Commission prohibited the proposed NYSE Euronext / Deutsche Borse merger, and in December 2011 AT&T withdrew its proposed bid for T-Mobile in the United States in the face of regulatory opposition. Our panelists who include former antitrust regulators from both sides of the Atlantic will discuss their insights on how M&A deals can successfully navigate the increasingly complex world of merger control.
