Experience and career history

Tony Reeves advises major companies from a wide range of industries on competition, trade and EU law, and specialises in particular in EU and multi-jurisdictional merger notifications, abuse of market power, cartels and distribution and licensing practices. He speaks regularly at conferences such as GCR, IBC, IBA, Chatham House, Fordham and industry events and has written for numerous legal publications and is recognised as a leading competition lawyer by Chambers & Partners, Legal 500 and other leading industry guides. Tony is also a non-governmental advisor to the International Competition Network (ICN).

Highlights of deals and projects

Tony advised:

  • Citigroup on (i) the acquisition of EMI and (ii) subsequent US$1.9 billion sale of EMI Recorded Music to Universal (Phase II investigation) and (iii) US$2.2 billion sale of EMI Music Publishing to a consortium led by Sony;
  • GE on over 50 acquisitions, including (i) the $2 billion acquisition of Instrumentatium (Phase II investigation) and (ii) the US$9.5 billion acquisition of Amersham;
  • Pfizer on (i) its US$68 billion acquisition of Wyeth, (ii) its US$3.6 billion acquisition of King Pharmaceuticals and (iii) the US$11.85 billion sale of its nutrition business to Nestle;
  • Toll Group in the EU's freight forwarding cartel investigation.
